❓Dream About a Test With Questions You Cannot Answer

The paper was in front of you. The questions were there. But you had no idea what any of them meant. Foreign language. Advanced mathematics. Subjects you never studied. Every question impossible.

When the questions are genuinely unanswerable — not just difficult but incomprehensible — your unconscious is showing you a situation in your life where you do not even understand what is being asked of you.

This is different from being unprepared. Being unprepared means you knew the material but did not study. This dream means you do not even recognize the subject. The challenge ahead is so foreign to your experience that you cannot begin to approach it.

If the questions were in another language, the people asking things of you are speaking in terms you do not understand. Their expectations, their values, their way of communicating — it is foreign to you.

If the questions kept changing, the demands on you are inconsistent. What was asked yesterday is different from what is asked today. You cannot prepare because the target keeps moving.

If everyone else was answering easily, you feel uniquely unqualified. The challenge that stumps you seems simple to others. The gap between your understanding and theirs feels unbridgeable.
