It was not a ghost. It was something darker. Something that felt malevolent, intentional, evil. The presence was not just dead — it was hostile.

In Jungian psychology, the most terrifying dream figures are the most deeply suppressed. What you reject absolutely becomes absolutely powerful in the unconscious. An "evil spirit" is the furthest extreme of this principle — something so thoroughly denied that it appears inhuman.

If the spirit felt purely evil, the rejected part of yourself has been demonized. Not just hidden — condemned. Declared evil. This could be your anger, your selfishness, your sexuality, your ambition — any quality that was labeled so thoroughly "bad" that it lost its human face.

If the spirit was trying to possess you, the rejected part wants to take over. It has been suppressed so long and so violently that it no longer asks permission. It forces its way in. This is what happens when healthy outlets are permanently blocked.

If you fought the spirit, you are actively resisting a part of yourself. The battle feels cosmic but it is internal. You versus the you that you refuse to be.

If you prayed or called for help, you are reaching for something transcendent to address the shadow. Whatever spiritual framework you hold, the call for help is the call for a force stronger than your own resistance.

If the spirit was defeated, the shadow has been confronted. Not destroyed — nothing in the psyche is ever destroyed. But met. Acknowledged. Reduced from demonic size to human size. That is the real exorcism.
