The crying baby is a need — your need — that has not been met. Maybe you need rest and have not taken it. Maybe you need emotional support and have not asked for it. Maybe you need creative expression and have not made time for it. The baby screams because the need cannot advocate for itself any other way.

If you could not find the crying baby, the need exists but you cannot identify it. You feel something is wrong — a general unease, a persistent dissatisfaction — but you cannot name what is missing.

If you picked up the baby and it stopped crying, you know the solution. Whatever the unmet need is, you have the ability to satisfy it. You just have not done it yet.

If the baby would not stop crying no matter what you did, the need is deeper than your current tools can reach. You may need help — professional, personal, spiritual — to address what is screaming inside you.

If the cry came from far away, the need is distant — either in the past (an old wound) or in a part of your life you have separated yourself from. The distance does not reduce the urgency. It just makes the source harder to find.
